The Event

The Alnwick Trail Runner is a series of trail runs that take place at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland. The event features family fun runs, a 5km, 10km and a half marathon and is a great opportunity for all the family to participate in trail running.

This event has been made possible with the kind cooperation of the Duke & Duchess of Northumberland in providing access to the trails within the private estate of Hulne Park, as well as hosting the start and finish within the grounds surrounding Alnwick Castle and Garden.

The race routes take competitors through Hulne Park on a wonderful journey along trails showcasing some of Northumberland finest scenery. Alnwick Castle provides a fabulous backdrop for both the start and finish and combined with the excellent facilities of Alnwick Gardens, this is a running event that may well be unrivalled.

All courses head out from Alnwick Castle along the banks of the River Aln, before parting on different headings that utilise a single route, single lap course with beautiful and varied scenery, so no lap counting required!

The 5km, 10km and Half Marathon will take place at 10.30am and will be unique in featuring a mass start, sharing the same start and finish line. The Mini & Junior fun runs will take place after the conclusion of the morning races, with the first race expected to start at 2.30pm.

All competitors will have to ‘save their best for last’ to tackle the final short ascent from the river side to the finish line situated on the picnic area next to the castle… and what a finish line it is!

All race finishers will receive a medal. The family run entry fee also includes a t-shirt. The 5km, 10km and half marathon feature accurate race chip timing and there is the option of purchasing a t-shirt when registering online.
